About Tony

Tony graduated with an MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield in 1993. He went on to study a PhD at Sheffield while also provding design and management consulting services to local manufacturing companies and teaching undergraduate courses on risk analysis and quality management.

In 2000, following completion of his PhD, Tony was appointed as a lecturer within Sheffield's Mechanical Engineering Dept and it was through this teaching role that he first became interested in the potential of the Internet for providing materials to support traditionally taught undergraduate courses (now refered to as blended learning). He developed extensive web sites on Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and Techniques for innovative problem solving (TRIZ) which became internationally recognised in these fields. This same year Tony became very interested in the possibilities offered by Macromedia Flash and created an interactive animated tutorial on QFD.

Resolving to pursue a career in e-learning Tony travelled to Australia in 2001 where he worked with Prof. Bob Hunt at the Graduate School of Management of Macquarie University to further develop his Flash tutorial and integrate it into MBA modules. This tutorial remains a key teaching resource in this field and in 2006 is undergoing translation into several international languages including Chinese.

Returning to the UK in 2002 Tony took a learning technologist position within the School of Computing at the University of Leeds. Here he developed a site to support a new Informatics Masters degree programme with an innovative "short and fat" module delivery schedule. This incorporated web development with an emphasis on cross platform compatibility, usability and in meeting the accessibility legislation that was just coming into effect. Also during this period within Computing Tony began authoring computer aided assessments using Questionmark Perception and video presentations using Boxmind.

In May 2004 Tony took a central e-learning support position at Leeds with responsibilities to support the University's Questionmark and Plagiarism detection systems. During this period Tony developed his Flash and PHP programming skills in creating additional e-learning systems, upgraded the Questionmark delivery infrastructure and devised summative assessment procedures, introduced electronic voting systems to Leeds and supported many staff throughout the institution with their e-learning activities.

Webducate intends to build on this extensive experience and provide e-learning services for the Higher Education community...
