New pollster functionality

One problem with running asynchronous on-line activities such as polls or discussions is the need to regularly re-visit the site to view any new additions. Also the first few participants don’t get the benefit of seeing the responses of the rest of the class, unless they actively choose to return to the site later.

To address these problems an RSS feed facility has been added to Pollster so you can now easily keep track of all your poll activity without having to login to myWebducate or visit the poll results pages. Also you can now choose to publish this feed URL on the poll results page so participants can also subscribe and so track later responses in the poll.

New look for AMP

The AMP player has been updated following user feedback with a new look. Other issues addressed include:

  • Slide and video magnification now maintains aspect ratio.
  • The position of the video and slide magnification buttons have been reversed.

AMP Launched

AMP, our accessible multimedia player, was released today. It is a simple web based authoring system and player that synchronizes slide images and transcript text with segments of video and/or audio. The authoring tool incorporates the production of an accessible alternative to the presentation. This provides a screen reader friendly version that can also be printed and is available to low bandwidth users.

Features include:

  • Facilitates the production of an accessible alternative for a multimedia presentation including long descriptions for images and transcripts for audio.
  • Player provides keyboard short-cuts for mouse-free use.
  • Simple web based authoring requires no installation of authoring tool.
  • Delivery via the Flash player plug-in provides cross-platform compatibility and facilitates the streaming of media without needing a streaming server.
  • Alternative version appropriate for printing and low bandwidth users.
  • Synchronises both audio and video with slide images and transcript text.
  • Slide and video magnification provided within the player.
  • Ability to provide presenter details, presentation summary and links to related information.
